When I think of a leader I think of someone I can look up to. I think of someone with a positive attitude, someone exemplary. A leader is someone who walks the right path instead of taking the easy path. Good leaders never let any difficulties stand in their way of success. They are open-minded and have the ability to lead and guide their groups. They strive to be the best and are devoted. A leader can influence others in the right direction.

Mabel Gardiner Hubbard with her husband Alexander Graham Bell

Mabel Hubbard Bell was a noteworthy female leader. She was a very remarkable person. At the age of five she became deaf, but despite her disadvantages she was highly intelligent. Bell ended up marrying the inventor of the first telephone (Alexander Graham Bell), hence her surname. She did everything people said she would not be able to do. She was bold and out spoken when it came to women’s rights. Mabel Bell also played a significant role in the efforts of attaining women’s suffrages in the United States of America. She was a strong, wise leader. Mabel is a great role model, one that we should all follow. “Never give up!” is something she really believed in.

Unlike Mabel Hubbard Bell, Gaddafi was a horrible leader. He led the people of Libya in awful ways. The decisions he made were only beneficial towards him. Gaddafi drove his people into poverty while he had plenty. He was selfish and careless of his people. In this instance, it has been demonstrated that bad leaders do exist. However, the question is: Is it better for a group to have a bad leader or no leader?

In my opinion, I believe that having a leaderless group is much more compensating than having a group governed by a bad leader. If a group has no leader, the people would at least pick choices that are beneficial for them. If there was an unfair leader making the decisions; it will affect the group as a whole. A group governed by an unrighteous leader would be weak and poor while a leaderless group would be divided and split. Both of these circumstances are unfortunate and disastrous. Nonetheless, I believe a leaderless group would be a bit more prosperous then a group with a bad leader.

Leaders are found everywhere; within homes, schools, churches, you name it. Without leaders there would not be any order in the world nor would there be a sense of community. As it was previously stated, the group would be divided and there would not be oneness. Every place should be united by a sturdy, bold leader. Good leaders take initiative when it is needed. Anyone can be a leader every day. All it takes is having a positive attitude and maturity is a given.

He asks us all to be good leaders in our faith by preaching in both our words and deeds

Jesus was the leader of the twelve apostles’: Peter, Matthew, James the Less, James the Greater, Phillip, Bartholomew, Thaddeus, Simon the Zealot, John, Thomas the Doubter, Andrew and Judas Iscariot. Jesus said “Come” and they followed. He led his disciples in righteous ways. He was a just, good leader. He leads us today through the Church. Jesus made an example we should all follow, that is “in all that you do, do for others.” This is something we should all follow in the world that we live in today. He asks us all to be good leaders in our faith by preaching in both our words and deeds. We can do this by being unprejudiced and meek. We all have a duty to bring back those who have gone astray. In order to do this, we must be caring and loving of others.

We do not need to do great deeds in order to become a good leader. Every little good thing we do can be an example for people who do not know the Way of Jesus. We do not have to be famous or important. That is exactly what St. Therese of the Child Jesus, who is also known as the saint of the “little way.” She led a simple yet consecrated life, but in the modern world, everyone knows of her. Because of her “little way,” everyone was inspired.

We can be like the saints by being holy in our actions and by leading a humble example for others. Saint Francis of Assisi was not a very accredited man but became one because of his holiness. He soon had many, many others following him. He brought countless of converts back to the Church because of his kindness and sincerity.

Leaders are very important. They are undeniably needed everywhere. We should all indulge in being good, fair leaders.  Leaders help us prosper and encourage us to do better. They assist us in special ways by caring for us and inspiring us to try again. They embolden us and teach us good lessons that should never be forgotten. Good leaders keep us straight and sure.

Leaders are only human and therefore can make mistakes. There will be holes, gaps and cracks. We can fill in those cracks by being good leaders ourselves. Taking on the responsibility of guiding your group may have its many struggles. We can do it by believing in ourselves and having confidence. Without confidence, we would not be strong enough to hold our group together. We need the strength to be able to keep enmity away from our groups. We must be a leader and direct others in righteous ways. It is our duty as Catholics.

Leaders give us motivation and praise. They give us the motivation to help us continue and never give up. They help us strive for perfection and give us praise to give it our all and encourage us to move forward proudly and confidently. Leaders give a group identity and harmony. They aid us in hindrances and burdens. It is, after all a lot better to have a helping hand rather than taking it on single handily.

For myself, a leader is someone with charisma and positivity. It is somebody with hope and somebody who gives joy. A person with character and vigilance is a true leader. Leaders are people who drive us forward, not someone who pulls out at all the stops. It is someone who’s always lending their all.

Leaders guide and steer. They assist us in times of tussle and sweat. They aid us with optimism and spirit. They give us comfort and confidence. Leaders are needed and important. Although taking on the commission of leadership is demanding and tough, the outcomes are wonderful and up lifting. We should all endeavour to be the best kind of leaders we can be. We should all venture out and take out our responsibility of being leaders in our faith. By following the footsteps of Jesus Christ proclaiming the gospel with both our words and deeds, anyone can become a true leader!
